The Frick was founded by the American industrialist Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919), who left his art collection and Gilded Age residence for the enjoyment of the public. The Frick Art Reference Library, a leading art history research center, was founded by Henry Clay Frick’s daughter, Helen Clay Frick (1888–1984), more than a century ago.
