It has a built-in sensor that detects when your cat has used the litter box, and then automatically rotates and separates the clumps into a waste drawer. The blue light on the Litter Robot indicates that it is in standby mode or working properly.

The yellow light flashing quickly is due to the anti-pinch feature. The Anti-Pinch safety feature is two pin connected to the motherboard that must touch each other continuously. If they are separated, you will have an alarm (yellow blinking light).
